The Outbreak pt. 2
Night of February 2, 2015
It wasn't long after we rung in 2015 that the world went to shit. Some say it was possibly a different string of the ebola virus that found the right host to bring it to the states. Others blame the government for messing with vaccine that was created to help prevent the further spread of ebola. Whatever it is, it's pretty much wiped out almost 85 percent of the population. Just like in the movies whoever dies from it rises back from the dead and wants to eat whoever is human but it's a bit different in other ways. If any bodily fluids from these zombies touch any humans mucous membrane you're infected. Making killing these things just as dangerous as them just existing. The other kicker is they mainly come out at night, you may see a few stragglers here and there along with the rare mobs of zombies throughout the day but they swarm at night. Every night just before dusk an alarm would sound off warning us to get inside. The worst are the animals. They look normal during the day, but as soon as night fall comes they show their true form. Jay and I came across a puppy roaming the streets just before the sun set, he was adament that we bring the puppy inside so nothing would happen to him. He said, "He obviously belongs to someone. He has tags and is really clean." I hesitantly agreed to let him stay but I wanted him in a separate room from us and Tesla. Not long after we got him settled in our spare room did his true form show. He lunged towards Jay, missing his hand by a few inches. Luckily we always have a knife handy and I took care of it.
A benefit we have that's different from all zombie movies I've seen was we still had communication. We still had cell phone, Internet service and electricity. Teenagers were still updating their facebooks, twitters, snapchats and instagrams with hashtag zombie apocalypse 2015. As if it was a fad or a storm that would soon pass. Truth is we haven't heard word from the CDC about a possible cure ever since it spread. Jay and I went to visit a few friends who took refuge at an abandoned train station and had a pretty sweet set up. They had a two story brick building with solid steel doors, which had a 6 foot fence surrounding the building and a few acres of land where they'd grow their own food. We'd help them maintain the property, crops and stand watch so in turn they'd help us with food. While making our rounds, a random mob of zombies were closing in on the property. We quickly made everyone aware and got to work opening the gate to let one of the train carts rigged with electric fencing out to distract them from piling up at the fence. The noise of the cart aping with the pop off the electric fence was enough to drag them out a few miles until they were all cooked. Just another day in the life of this new world....
